The apps shelf — state of the collection
A shop window is honest about one thing: it shows what’s there. The apps shelf is flove’s window — roughly eighty small applications, each one a single HTML file that you can read in your browser and take home with you. No frameworks, no login, no account. Just the work, out in the open.
This post is the shelf’s opening statement: what’s on it, how it got here, and what’s still on the bench.
What’s on it
Every app lives under flove.org/solo/ and is gathered on the apps catalogue. They come in clusters, because flove thinks in clusters — related little things that talk to each other:
- appy — the hello-world of tools: small personal utilities, including nety, the decentral messenger.
- trusty — people and places: trusty.html and its family of relationship apps.
- puzzy — interfaces and things that need fiddly care, a whole lab of its own: puzzy/.
- blogy — the writing corner: blogy/, the making-of for this very blog.
- economy, metas, lowai, psicosocial, bio, liberada — money, goals, the local AI, the mind, and books. Every cluster is a drawer, and each drawer is the seed of a longer story.
Because they’re single files, every app is a walking thing: bookmark it, save it, open it offline — the PWA layer makes the whole solo area work even without a connection.
How it got here
The shelf grew the way flove grows everything: one small thing at a time, from
the bottom up. Apps started as bare sketches and were worked up through tiers —
mini → basic → advanced — so a tool earns its complexity instead of
inheriting it. Then came the restructuring that flattened everything into the
solo/ area, so that every app, and the catalogue that shows them, share one
home. What you see on the shelf today is that flat, honest layout.
What’s ahead
- nety keeps growing — the decentral network is the shelf’s most ambitious drawer and the one with the most road in front of it.
- flove-apk — an Android build of the solo experience, so the shelf can fit in a pocket.
- More drawers, and a few old ones getting the advanced pass they’ve earned.
The shelf is a place you can actually reach into. So reach. If something you need isn’t there yet, that’s not a missing feature — it’s a hint about what flove should build next.
